Some Great Tips For That Spring A/C Startup

January 7, 2019

It’s that time of year again when everything starts growing and our thoughts turn to those warm summer days just ahead. There is a lot to do in the spring and while you’re getting ready, remember to include a few start-up tips for that air conditioner as part of any routine you go through so your unit is ready to go when spring turns into summer. First off, make sure that you don’t jump the gun and start testing out to see how your system has made it through the winter by turning it on too early. It is best if you wait for a few days to be sure the warmer weather is staying around for the season, until the temperature is averaging about 15°C. At this temperature and above the cooling coil will come on and you can get a comprehensive idea of how the unit will work under more heated summer conditions. Of course, the temperature in the spring will drop at night so you’ll need to wait a few minutes before turning from cool to heat on the thermostat to give the thermostat the time to properly change things over. Remember to look for any debris or bushes that have covered or are growing around the condensing unit outside. That part of the air conditioner needs to be kept free from obstructions to work properly. You want to be sure your air conditioner can intake sufficient amounts of outside air when the time comes. Finally, it’s a good idea to make sure that you’ve got clean air filter either already installed or ready to go. Check the MERV rating to get one that’s right for your needs. Remember that the hotter weather means you’ll need to have a supply of these on hand and starting the season off on the right foot is a great idea.
