Preparing Your Home for the Heating Season

September 20, 2019

As the colder months are almost upon us, there are some steps you can take to ensure your comfort but also maximize your energy costs and improve your indoor air quality during the heating season.

Schedule a Heat Pump or Furnace Tune-Up

The end of summer is an excellent time to schedule a tune-up. Oosterveld Heating & Air Conditioning has been performing heating tune-ups for residents throughout Guelph and beyond for more than 35 years. Your tune-up will include a comprehensive inspection as well as any basic maintenance and a safety check. If you don’t have one yet, this is a great time to consider a programmable thermostat. We also recommend installing a carbon monoxide detector or testing your existing equipment.

Prepare Your Air Purifiers and Humidifiers

Both air purifiers and humidifiers can play an important role during winter. If you have portable models, this is a good time to clean them, replace the filter media and otherwise get them ready. If you have whole-home equipment, schedule an inspection alongside your heating tune-up.

Schedule Air Duct Cleaning

With fall approaching, now is also an appropriate time to consider cleaning your air ducts. Be mindful that your ducts do not need cleaning annually. It varies by home, but the rule of thumb is every three years. You never want to wait too long since dirty ducts greatly diminish indoor air quality.
